The internet has been going crazy on what Kanye West has been saying. From him being a MAGA supporter to saying slavery was a choice. The outrage comes from people feeling uncomfortable due to lack of research. Also, why do opinions affect people like they do, it’s not like an opinion can be wrong or right, right? No matter if someone disagrees or agrees with my viewpoint, I’m indifferent because I know how I view the world, and I can explain why I view the world the way I do.

I truly believe the world is in a worse place with social media than it was before. My issue doesn’t lie within Kanye’s belief, my issue lies within the hypocrisy of social media and society. Everyone is open-minded until you say something they disagree with, so it seems. Why can’t a celebrity have their own beliefs, beliefs that are unpopular? If Kanye loves Trump, what’s wrong with that? The rebuttal to that aforementioned statement is it’s dangerous, dangerous because he is perpetuating bigotry, racist beliefs, etc on to his large following as Kanye is as influential is it gets. Beyond-surface research will tell you not only is he not perpetuating negative beliefs, but he isn’t responsible for anybody following him. Why is the responsibility of parenting put on celebrities? Why do we look to celebrities for political opinion and personal life choices? You may say people don’t, but the fact there is extreme outrage with what Kanye has said lately says a lot different.  When are people going to stop putting responsibilities on figures in pop culture and take accountability for how they feel and what they think? You can like the art without agreeing with the artist. You can buy a pair of Jordan’s without being a fan of MJ or even basketball. I love the Cosby Show and A Different World, but don’t agree with what Bill Cosby has done in his private life. It’s more dangerous to oneself to be feeble-minded and follow celebrities/the masses without doing their research than it is to be a free-thinker who is ostracized.

Personal liberation is on the other-side of your comfort zone, if you dare to wade the waters of research and self-actualization.
