Impressions of Grand Asia Market

Impressions of Grand Asia Market

Years ago, years and years ago, maybe more than a decade ago there was a small Asian super market, Grand Asia. My parents would shop there every other week or so for our grocery needs. Soon thereafter, business began booming and they moved next door into a retail space quadruple that of their old one. I haven’t been there in years, but since my mom and I are visiting my brother, she wanted to cook a Cambodian soup, Katiew, so we headed to none other than Grand Asia for the ingredients.

As a young adult, I’m still being taught to appreciate even the most mundane of places due to nostalgia. I’ve never thought much of Grand Asia as being an integral part of my journey, but it’s a place that brings some sort of emotion out of me. Walking through the automatic doors, my memory was triggered to remind me of subtle things such as my mom buying Yan Yans for a treat when she finished grocery shopping. If it wasn’t Yan Yans, my dad would bring me to the bakery and we’d buy custard buns together. Is it clear to you yet? I’m missing the simpler times of life, where I would spend a couple of hours here every other weekend with my parents perusing through the aisles of imported Asian food, simply being a kid.

Do you recognize any of these snacks? Have you been to Grand Asia Market before? Let me know in the comments!
