Shooting with Stephan: Downtown, 5.2.18

I met Stephan while working at the restaurant last year. We were hired the same week if not the same day. Turns out he wanted to get back into shooting, so we vowed to get up weekly to explore and visually document different parts of Charlotte. I haven’t shot leisurely in ages, so finding time to do so while also sharpening my skills is exciting. I’ve been wanting to work more with my composition of photos. My goal is to share with you the 11 best photos of my exploration. This way I’m holding myself accountable in self-improvement and in progress.

We began the night by going to the newly-opened Shake Shack on Park Road, or at least attempting to. The line was through the door and around the corner, had to be an estimate of 50-60 people in line. Shake Shack is good, but not wait-in-line-for-over-an-hour good. Instead, we made our way across the street to Chick-Fil-A. I got the usual, number 1 with a 4-count strip entree’. I usually get extra Polynesian sauce, but today I opted for the BBQ. It’s CFA, you can’t go wrong either way. We caught up, ate, and drove downtown.

We parked at the deck across from the Mint Museum, and began our walk towards the NasCar Hall of Fame. From there, we made our way to the northern part of the city where we saw a lady trying to chase down another lady to engage in what seemed to be a physical altercation. There aren’t many parts of the city I haven’t roamed, but there are many parts of the city I have never paid much attention to. Crazy how much we pass up on by not paying attention. I get it, it’s hard to though, life is busy for most of us. There was a beautiful purple house which doubled as a restaurant. Some apartments had protruding windows and beautifully decorated balconies. There was a Charlotte Knights game going on by the time we made our way back to the parking deck. All in all, it was another night in the city. Nothing too special, but nothing too mundane.

My favorite photo from this shoot. The composition is flawless.
