Slammed Enuff 2018
I’ve never been to a car show before, only car meets. Even then, I don’t go often. My first car meet I attended was a JDM meet with my cousin in Long Beach back when he drove a Honda Prelude. That was 8 something years ago. The last car meet I attended was at UNCC with Spenceweezy in 2015. Cars have always been an interest of mine, but nothing I’m too passionate about. My parents used to buy me Hot Wheels as a kid, and that is what began my collector’s lifestyle. Nonetheless, I love cars. Cars are an expression of oneself. Some buy cars to impress others, others buy cars for functionality, etc. Then you have the enthusiasts who buy automobiles to collect and to customize. This is one of the highest levels of artistry a creative may partake in.
Meezy and Spenceweezy hit me up earlier this week about a car show in Charlotte (Concord). I told them I was down to go and come Sunday, we were in there. Spence and Meezy are my brothers, they’re family to me. They also so happen to be car enthusiasts. Meezy drives a BMW on BBS’ and Spence drives the current generation Mustang. They’ve been into cars for as long as I’ve known them.
The morning of, Spence left the bribo before me around 9am as he entered his car in the show. I didn’t pull up until about 11:30am. There was no service in the building, so there wasn’t any way I could get in contact with him. Plus, the show didn’t begin until 1pm, so the doors were locked. Luckily Meezy and ‘nem were still in line to get their cars in the show. I ran to the back of the building and hopped in Steezy’s Audi. 10 minutes later, we pulled in the building. Luckily the lady didn’t ask to see my wrist band. We got in, and set the cars up. Spence met up with us and we left to get some food. We went to Bojangles, Taco Bell, and Publix.
After a late lunch, we pulled back up to Cabarrus Arena. This time, it was after 1pm and they were taking money for parking. When we pulled up to the guys taking money, Spencer showed them his wrist band and said we were here already but left to get some lunch, which was true. Dude let us slide, and due to Spence’s quick wit, we saved $5. Upon entering, they were checking for bands at the door. I decided to walk and the guy asked for our bands as we were entering where the cars were. The people around me held their wrist up and I walked right in with them. That saved me $25, so total finesse savings on the day was $30 bean bags. (Got eeeeeeeem.) We would spend the next few hours roaming around looking at customized cars. At one point, I almost fell asleep in some beach chairs Steezy provided me. It was a good time all around. A lot of the cars were off the wall in my opinion, but I can always appreciate and respect effort and expression. Spence told me a lot of the things done to these cars are awesome, but they’re things he wouldn’t do to his. That sums up how I felt about the majority of the cars there. I left Cabarrus Arena inspired. I wonder what type of vehicle I could make mine. Definitely a Toyota or a Lexus. Maybe in the future a 1st gen NSX.
We’ll see.
