11 Songs On Repeat ATM

Music is good. Good music is great. What isn’t great, is that good music is hard to come by these days. For my personal taste, at least. Since 2013, there hasn’t been a year in music I have thoroughly enjoyed. Maybe 3 or 4 projects I like per year, but not one I am utterly impressed with. That has been changing lately with the release of Kanye’s album, Pusha T’s album, Cudi and Ye’s album, Nas’ album, Jay Rock’s album, Jorja Smith’s album...etc. And the year isn’t half-way through yet. It’s a shame the Kanye produced albums are all 7 songs long. I wish they were full length EPs. Jay Rock, the best rapper on TDE in my opinion, dropped a phenomenal album this past Friday. I was surprised at how much I liked Jorja Smith’s album. I’m not saying I thought it’d be bad, but I didn’t expect to fall in love with the album as much as I did. Lost & Found reminds me of Khalid’s American Teen. Sonically they’re different, but the feelings they give me are similar. They remind me of a life I’ve lived in the past, a life I’m chasing in the now.

With that being said, check out 11 songs I have on repeat at the moment. Let me know what you think in the comments!

Anywho, boy, when you got it, you keep a close watch
On the ones that’s befriendin’ you (friendin’ you)
That might be the ones that’s envy you (envy you)
Vividly dreamin’ ‘bout endin’ you (endin’ you)
But when you low, they don’t tend to you (tend to you)
Actin’ all new when they run into you (into you)
Fuckin’ your bitch tryna feel like you (feel like you)
This the message I send to you:
Look both ways before you cross me, I tell ya...
— J. Cole
Ridin’ back to back, me and Jungle in some spaceships
Where the squad at?
You can see us on the ave, chop it up as always
Stand up Queensbridge, now the world know us
Everybody sayin’ my humility’s infectious
I just want my kids to have the same peace I’m blessed with...
— Nas
Would it be easier if I stayed at home?
Wasting my time on my own
Hoping that you’d come along
And would you be honest...
— Jorja Smith
Stay afloat, someone might put their arm out to help you
I don’t know, I would
If I saw somebody drowning in a sea of self-confusion
I wanna be the one to try and understand why their tide ain’t coming in...
— Jorja Smith
I’ve got a lot of things to do
What if I had been a fool and thought I was in love with you
I need to grow and find myself before I let somebody love me
Because at the moment I don’t know me...
— Jorja Smith
They say, “Build your own”—I said, “How, Sway?”
I said, “Slavery a choice”—they said, “How, Ye?”
Just imagine if they caught me on a wild day...
— Kanye West
I called up my loved ones, I called up my cousins
I called up the Muslims, said I’m ‘bout to go dumb
Get so bright, it’s no sun, get so loud, I hear none
Screamed so loud, got no lungs, hurt so bad, I go numb...
— Kanye West
I let it all go, of everything that I know, yeah
Of everything that I know, yeah
And nothing hurts anymore, I feel kinda free
We’re still the kids we used to be...
— 070 Shake
Stop that movement, stop that movement
Y’all can’t move me, this my movie
Y’all can’t stop me, y’all too sloppy
Carbon copied, carbon
Same thing, in a room
Sittin’ by myself, findin’ heaven soon
Many things that will trouble you
Look beyond for a feelin’ like you never knew
Reachin’ out, huntin’ for the truth
I’m guessin’ I’m just sick of runnin’
All this time searchin’ hard for somethin’
I can hear the angels comin’...
— Kid Cudi
Perched in the night, lookin’ out nowhere
Where’s home on this hidden earth?
Pain in my eyes, in the time I find, I’m stronger than I ever was...
— Kid Cudi
We’re too special for the world, dodgin’ bullets, we’re in trouble in times
It’s all about us
And mama always taught me as a boy, to help ya brother if he’s fallin’ at times
And we’ll never give up, never....
— Jacquees
