Heroes Con 2018

I haven’t been to too many conventions, only 3 to be exact, but I enjoy them. It’s fun seeing people nerd out about whatever it is they find an extreme interest in. Obed mentioned he was going to a hot sauce convention when I was in New York City. A hot sauce convention?! I don’t like spicy foods, but I would’ve been down to go had I been in town. You can learn about a lot at a convention, including yourself. I had nothing to do on a Saturday, so I went downtown when I heard about Heroes Con. The convention shut down pretty early at 6pm, and it was already 5:15pm. The lady suggested I buy a ticket for Sunday, and that is exactly what I did.

I set enough time aside to enjoy Heroes Con on Sunday, commute included. I got there around 2pm and began exploring. There were many booths and many people dressed up as their favorite cosplay. It reminded me of Animazement when I went a few years back with my brother in Raleigh. Not as many people dressed up, but instead, more marketplace booths to compensate. To me, these things are best done alone. Reason being is, I like to take my time exploring and seeing, that I don’t want to inconvenience anyone else. I stayed for 2 and a half hours and didn’t leave until close to 5pm.

Heroes Con is a comic book convention and was began by Shelton Drum as a one-day event at Eastland Mall in 1977. It was named Charlotte Mini-Con until in 1982, when it was renamed to Heroes Convention. Heroes Con has featured guests such as Stan Lee, Joe Quesada, and George Perez among many others. Heroes Con had cars on display including my favorite, the DeLorean from Back to the Future and the Mystery Machine from Scooby-Doo amongst a few others. They had artists who drew, painted, did digital renditions, etc., etc. There were lines to meet people and booths with handmade items. I loved being surrounded by this type of energy because everyone was there to enjoy themselves. Everyone was approachable and would talk to anyone about anything. One of my favorite booths had original Pokemon and Yugioh cards. It was a blast from the past. I searched for Blaine’s Arcainine, but couldn’t find it. The Exodia set wasn’t from the Legend of Blue Eyes booster, so I didn’t want to buy that either, but it was still awesome to see these cards my brother and I used to collect as kids.

All in all, I enjoyed my 2 and a half hours at Heroes Con. I didn’t buy anything, but left with having had a good time and quite a few impressions. Check them out and leave a comment below!
