Diamond Coin Purse Scans, 9.19.18

The summer before college, I went to Los Angeles to visit family and friends. While shopping on Fairfax, my cousin and I went into the Diamond Supply Co. store. I didn’t like DSC much back then, and neither do I now, but I loved their novelty items and accessories. Blankets, ash trays, pillows, wallets, etc. These types of items are my favorite. When the time is right and I bring back The Midnight Project, it’ll be composed of t-shirts and novelty items. One of the items that caught my eye in Diamond, was a coin purse. It was red with a gold diamond on it, just clean. I purchased it and brought it with me everywhere. There was a hook/chain that attached the purse and I used to hook it on my pant loop when I would wear it. Coin purses were big in 2011, and people would leave them hanging off their belt loop. I thought it was corny to let it hang, so instead, I tucked it in my back pocket. I would put ticket stubs in there, fortunes, etc., etc. When I look back on it, that coin purse is a blast from the past. I believe I stopped wearing it sometime in the summer of 2012. It has, since then, been stored away in the top drawer of my dresser under my briefs. With me beginning college again, I thought I’d revisit some of the memories tucked away in that little red Diamond Supply coin purse. Most I’ve forgotten about, which leaves me to question; how much of life matters if it isn’t in the presence of memory?

I should probably buy a new one for new memories, huh?

Top Right:Perks of a Wallflower stub from the AMC at Concord Mills. One of my favorite movies, for my favorite all-time novel.

Top Left: This Amtrak train ticket to Greensboro was memorable as I was going through a rough patch in my relationship at the time, which would eventually end two weeks later. I remember listening to my favorite Drake song, Club Paradise, fantasizing of what life could be for myself in the future as I headed to meet up with AJ to hit the studio for the first time in my life.

Bottom: Paranormal Activity ticket stub. I went with Jimmy to see this horror film and I was scared as hell. I never watch scary movies, but the homie got me out my comfort zone. It was a good time at Starlight Cinemas, a theatre integral to any student’s UNCC experience.
