Missing the Fog [February 2020 Portrait], 2.26.20
I have a fascination with fog. To begin, it’s aesthetically pleasing. Second, I have my head in the clouds so much that it’s nice when the sky comes down for a visit. As I got out of taking my epidemiology exam, the fog was remarkably thick. I could barely see 20 feet in front of me driving home on North Tryon. When I got home, I cooked and scarfed down 3 scrambled eggs. I knew as the morning dwindled, so would the fog, so I packed my camera equipment and headed out to Reedy Creek Nature Preserve. 2 minutes away, I thought about how it would be neat to get Bagel in the portrait along with the fog, so I turned around and picked him up. 20 minutes later as Bagel and I pulled into the parking lot of Reedy Creek, the sun was coming out and the fog had dissipated. Still, nothing could ruin the shoot as I had my son with me. I broke out the tripod and took a few photos of us. Bagel kept roaming back and forth between the front seats and the rear window because he was excited for his walk. Because of this, I cut the shoot short, but I don’t need many takes to get it right, so it works out. When the last photo was taken, the sun had come out of hiding and the clouds were gone. Bagel and I walked the trails at Reedy for an hour before coming home to eat and rest.
